Christmas

John Chapter 1

V1,2     *How did the Word get to the beginning?

.            *Why is Jesus called the Word?

.            *How can the Word be with God and God at the same time?

V3        *Was Jesus created?

V4,5     *What life is this talking about?

.            *Why doesn’t the darkness comprehend the light?

V14      *How did the Word come out of eternity and become flesh?

.           *Dwelt means to pitch His tent. Does this suggest we are

.                pitched here temporarily? Was He here temporarily?

.           *Does “full of grace and truth” indicate Jesus was fully God

.                 as he walked as a man?

V18     *Has no one seen God Because He is spirit?

.           *Does this indicate that we need Jesus to be able to worship

.                 the Father?

.           *How can we as humans relate to God who is spirit?

.           *Could this be why Jesus told the woman at the well that a

.                  time is coming when those who worship God must worship

.                  in spirit and truth (John 4: 21-24)?

Acts 12: 1-10
Saturday, November 25th, 2017

Acts 12:1-10

Herod started harassing the Church, then killed James and John.

The Jews liked this so he seized Peter with the intention of bringing

him before the people after the Passover. While Peter was in prison

the Church constantly prayed for him. The last night Peter was to be

in prison he was sleeping, chained between two guards. An angel

stood beside Peter and a light shined in the prison. The angel struck

Peter on the side as the chains fell from his wrists. The angel told him

to get dressed and follow. Peter did as he was told. Peter thought it

was a vision but he followed instructions. They walked past two guard

posts. The iron gate opened allowing them to walk into the city. Then

the angel left him.

V1         *Is it noteworthy that now the persecution is from other than

.                   the Jewish religious leaders?

.             *This Herod is Herod Agrippa, grandson of Herod the Great.

.                   What do we know about Herod the Great (Mt2)?

V2          *Is this James the brother of John (Mt4:21)?

V1,3       *Why would Herod start persecuting the Church?

V3          *Why did Herod seize Peter?

V4          *Why hold Peter until after Pasover?

.              *Why did Herod need so many soldiers?

V5          *What was this prayer like?

.              *How do our prayers compare with these prayers?

V6          *Does Peter’s ability to sleep tell us anything about his faith?

V7-9,18 *Were the angel’s instructions sensible?

.              *How much excitement occurred during this prison break?

V7-10     *What reaction did the guards have to the angel?

V10        *Why didn’t the angel walk Peter further than the street?

Acts 11:27-30

During this time of teaching prophets came from Jerusalem. One,

predicted through the Spirit a famine. The disciples each decided to

send relief as they could to Judea. They sent the aid with Barnabas

and Saul.

V27        *Were the prophets no longer welcome in Jerusalem?

.              *Could it be that there work was winding down in Jerusalem

.                     and were more needed in Antioch?

V28        *Could the lack of bread in a famine be a way God tries to get

.                     people to understand Jesus the bread of life?

V29,30  *Is there a difference between how the early Church and the

.                     Egyptians handled the warning of a famine?

.              *In this context what is the difference between Christians and

.                     the world?

.              *Can we judge our own genuineness of faith by how we

.                     help others?

.              *Does this mention of elders indicate the beginning of a Church

.                     organization?

Acts 11: 19-26

Acts 11: 19-26

The believers scattered by the persecution were spread over a wide

area. They were preaching to Jews only. Some who had come from

Cyprus and Cyrene preached to Greek speaking Jews. The Lord’s

presence was with them so many believed.

News of this came to the Church in Jerusalem. Barnabas was sent to

check. Barnabas was gladdened by what he saw and encouraged the

work to continue. Many people came to the Lord.

Barnabas went to Tarsus. He found Paul and brought him back to

Antioch. The two taught there for a year. This is the first time believers

were called Christians.

V19          *How did persecution figure into the spread of the gospel?

.                *Should we pray for persecution?

.                *How does God use evil intent for his purposes?

.                *If we witnessed as God told us to would persecution be

.                      needed?

V19,20    *If the believers were afraid of persecution why didn’t they go

.                       to a new area and be silent?

V20          *Could this be preparation for preachers to flood through a door

.                        that Peter’s encounter with Cornelius’ household opened?

V21           *Does this help us see God’s part and our part in witnessing?

V22           *Is the Church excited about these developments?

.                 *Are we excited when hearing of people saved?

V22-25     *Does a spiritual gift show up here in the life of Barnabas?

.                 *Aren’t we all called to witness?

.                 *How does Barnabas help the witnesses?

.                 *Is Barnabas filling the role of a pastor here?

V25,26      *Could it be that Saul had gone home to rest from the work?

.                 *Did Barnabas need an assistant pastor?

.                 *Was Barnabas worried that Saul would overshadow his

.                        ministry?

V26           *How well equipped for ministry would a person be sitting for

.                        a year under Saul’s teaching?
